Quiet

Hello, Good Reader. It’s been a while. And the whole time, I have been walking around thinking about Needing to write a new post for you, to you. But you see, I have this aversion to writing out of a Sense of Need–I don’t ever want to write because I feel an expectation to do so, or because I have projected an expectation from you for me to do so (I don’t think you Have a Need for me to write; I doubt most of you wonder what I’m getting up to on a regular basis, as is fitting, because you’ve Got a Life).

Nevertheless, it *has been a while, and I *have had Things On My Mind. Much has been happening in my personal life, all at once (isn’t that the way it always is?).

I’m immersed in the pandemonium that is Life with my partner, sometimes his two Littles, and our now three-dog pack, doing The Dory Mondays through Fridays. That means I often find myself tucking reading and writing into odd, spare minutes of the day, wherever I can find or make space for them.

Since just before the end of the school year, I’ve been leaning more toward the Intentional, at least as far as reading is concerned. You might be surprised to know–I was surprised to realize–that the better part of being a writer is being a reader.

Fortunately, our town has a wicked-fantastic library (thanks, Lawrence Public Library!), so I’ve begun a program for myself, reading a memoir, a book on the craft of writing, and a fiction book. Fiction is, by far, my least-read genre. with the exception of a few authors, I’ve always preferred to Learn Facts, so it’s taken a bit more Intentionality selecting and reading fiction.

In these periods between posts, be sure, I’m still writing something, somewhere. If you haven’t heard from me, it’s because I’m folded into the margins of The Quiet.

I would like to hear from you.

What’s the best book you’ve read lately?

What’s your favorite book?
